Ryan Smith, MD, a facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon, understands that the face is an outward representation of who a patient is. And when a patient has a condition that affects their facial appearance, he knows it can harm their quality of life, their self-confidence and their ability to function in public.
The good news? He wants patients to know that there are many treatment options to make improvements. During an initial consultation, Dr. Smith will take his time to discuss which treatments or procedures may best fit a patient’s desires and lifestyle.
With extensive training in both cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the face, head and neck, Dr. Smith is the director of South Loop Otolaryngology and an assistant professor at Rush. He enjoys teaching medical students, as well as training residents and fellows in the latest surgical techniques.
By lecturing extensively and authoring numerous scientific papers and book chapters, Dr. Smith has made significant contributions to the field of facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. He has traveled internationally to provide humanitarian surgical aid to patients in Nicaragua, Ecuador and Vietnam.
Dr. Smith is active in clinical research, investigating novel treatments and surgical innovations to provide the safest and highest-quality care to his patients. In addition, he proudly participates in Rush’s Wounded Warrior program to care for soldiers injured in combat, and in Rush’s diversity programs for all communities, including LGBTQ+.
